First let me say Guru.com is a very well respected company that performs a vital service to companies, contractors and freelancers. Most of the time you sign up with the service, pay a monthly fee and then post your resume online. You can sign up and post your resume for free, but you will not be allowed to post on alot of projects unless you pay a monthly fee. Then companies place projects on the site for your to bid on. Which that is a valid way for Guru to make money.
Pro
- Guru has an enormous amount of projects to bid on.
- They have a great system for payment.
- They use a very comprehensive rating system for both employer and freelancer.
- There are alot companies and freelancers that have made money from Guru’s services.
Con
- You pay a monthly fee and then still have to bid against possibly hundreds of other freelancers.
- Alot of the freelancers under bid projects that make it impossible to be profitable.
Some final thoughts
- Guru is like anything else in life. “You have to crawl before you can walk.” You have to have
credentials and a portfolio. You must do a great job of marketing yourself in you resume.
-
You must spend time on the site like in social networking.

Our company has used talent from Guru.com. We are a little different than most companies looking to outsource a contract. We look for bids in the middle or top two-thirds of the bids and have used them. We have been satisfied so far. We have moved most of our outsoucing to LinkedIn. But that is another post.
What are your experinces with Guru and LinkedIn?
